A friend of mine at the Milwaukee Makerspace got a few members involved in the 100 Square Feet of Art charity auction going on here in Milwaukee in December. (More info can be found here: [link] )
Essentially, they request that local artists pick up a 12x12" piece of wood and "art" it.
The back-piece is a photograph that I took out at Boerner Botanical Gardens here in Milwaukee, that's been laser-etched onto a piece of Baltic birch plywood and treated with teak oil.
The fore-piece is held 1/2" above the back-piece and is laser cut from the same wood, but with a "Bombay Mahogany Satin" stain finish applied.
The flower in the middle is an orchid, from a picture that I took at the 3 Domes, again, in Milwaukee. Yep, we've got it all....
